PALLQA Project 2023: Bridging Continents, Building Communities

The PALLQA Project stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and cross-cultural exchange in fostering community development and global understanding. A joint endeavor between Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile and the Pohon Sagoe Maluku Foundation, this initiative aims to strengthen ties between Latin America, the Asia-Pacific region, and Africa while empowering students to drive positive change in underserved communities.

Initiated in 2022, the PALLQA Project serves as a platform for Chilean students who come from diverse backgrounds to come together and make a meaningful impact for community. Through this collaborative effort, students from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile immerse themselves in communities across the globe, working alongside local partners to address pressing challenges and promote sustainable development.

One such community is nestled in the heart of Maluku, Indonesia, where the PALLQA Project has found its home. This collaborative initiative brings together students and volunteers to embark on a journey of discovery and service in remote areas of Maluku. Through hands-on projects and cultural exchange, the project aims to enhance cross-cultural learning and foster global citizenship among participants.

The targeted village for the PALLQA Project is Kilo 9, located in the Inamosol district of West Seram, Maluku, Indonesia. Here, students collaborate with local stakeholders to identify community needs and implement tailored solutions that promote education and health empowerment. By working closely with community members, students gain valuable insights into local challenges and develop innovative approaches to address them.

One key aspect of the project is the medical check-up program, where students, alongside local healthcare professionals, provide health assessments for community members. From monitoring blood pressure to assessing nutritional status, these check-ups play a vital role in promoting preventive healthcare and raising awareness about common health issues.

Furthermore, the PALLQA Project incorporates Health and Environment classes for children, providing them with essential knowledge and skills to lead healthy lives and protect the environment. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students learn about topics such as proper nutrition, hygiene practices, and environmental conservation. By instilling these values at a young age, the project aims to foster lifelong habits that contribute to individual and community well-being.

Furthermore, the PALLQA Project incorporates Health and Environment classes for children, providing them with essential knowledge and skills to lead healthy lives and protect the environment. Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students learn about topics such as proper nutrition, hygiene practices, and environmental conservation. By instilling these values at a young age, the project aims to foster lifelong habits that contribute to individual and community well-being.

From January 8, 2023, to February 8, 2023, the PALLQA Project enters its live-in program phase, where students fully immerse themselves in the community of Kilo 9 village. During this period, students actively participate in community activities, implement project initiatives, and deepen their understanding of local culture and customs. Through meaningful interactions and shared experiences, participants forge lasting connections and contribute to positive change in the community.

In conclusion, the PALLQA Project exemplifies the transformative potential of collaboration, cross-cultural exchange, and community engagement. By bringing together students from different parts of the world to work towards a common goal, the project fosters understanding, empathy, and solidarity across borders.
